Daily Coffee Talk~ 72/365

Fishermen at Inle Lake ~ Myanmar

There is so much that keeps me doing photography day in and day out for the last almost 30 years, but one of the most incredible reasons is the ability of a single photograph to take me back.

An image has the ability to encapsulate the moment and keep it alive beyond our memories, past our limited recollections and allows us to relive the impressions, the smells, the light and the sights that we witnessed at that moment as we freeze it in time.

And then if someone else can connect to the image and feel what we felt, then wow, mission accomplished.

Have a good day my friends wherever you may be.

Daily Coffee Talk~ 54/365

Self portrait ~ Boracay

Hi my friends,

I remember a world with less restrictions, a planet without a pandemic, a state of affairs when most travelled freely, and a time when the world as it is today was inconceivable.

And yet, here we are, at the end of an almost 3 year run at this virus’s stroll around our planet or is that wishful thinking?

Morning Coffee Talk~2/365

This morning I woke up with thoughts of ‘repetition’. How life here on this spinning planet demonstrates this continuously, from the sun rising daily, to our constant heartbeat, the seasons, our in-breath and out-breath, day and night,… it’s all around us.

I will share a short writing from a few weeks ago:

We, humans are born on a spinning sphere,

into cycles of day and night,

of repeating seasons,

our cells multiplying,

the galaxies spinning,

around us again and again,

till we die, only to be reborn,

and it all over again,

this repeating eternal dance,

we call existence.

Istanbul~ Shadow Stories

Istanbul Shadow Stories~

On this trip, I was chasing the light as most street photographers do, to experience the extraordinary dimensions that it gives to ordinary life moment.

Istanbul in the early morning, sunset or even high noon can look quite magical through the lens. It’s a city of almost 18 million residents, bustling with life, energy and that little extra something unique to it… every photographer’s dream.

I am on my last morning here and already planning a trip back in the future, inshalla…

Glorious sunrise in Düsseldorf~

I think the beat way to feel the souls of a place is to meet it at a magical moment, a time when something as common as night surrendering to day never fails to amaze us. Every time that I witness a sunrise, it seems as if I gained a chunk of time, a bonus bit of living that would otherwise have been lost to me.

Before they wake up~ Düsseldorf

Before the city awakens, when the light slowly paints the dark blue horizon, that’s when magic happens. To think of how many mornings we end up not witnessing this wonder makes me wish to miss more sleep.

What is your favorite time to practice street photography?

Photos taken early this morning on the banks of the river Rhein in Duesseldorf.

Sunrise Symphonies~

Sunrise symphonies~

There is a special line of magic that only reveals itself at the time when the sun rises. Capturing it is a gift from all that makes this planet we fin ourselves on so incredibly beautiful.

Between Earth and Sky~

between earth and sky~ MyanmarThroughout my travels I have seen places where people felt content with who they are, blissfully living between earth and sky without want for anything more. That would seem to be the ultimate goal and the secret to happiness, being able to feel truly satisfied. These people seemed to be always doing something, busy, working, creating, in harmony with life somehow as they toil in it. Our modern world keeps dangling carrots in front of us to make us want more, with hardly any time to appreciate what we already have.

Reading the runes of today~

In a world where impressions and information bombard us from all directions as soon as we open our eyes in the morning, how do we make sense of what is happening in the world?

In a single day you hear of a president resigning, a new scandal unfolding with another president, a child shooting other children, Olympic Games, your own private messages and communications, other local news, advertisements in your mailbox, and so much more to process in one single day.

Makes me wish for a life when news came from watching a starry night sky (as a friend mentioned she did yesterday to start her day), a walk on the beach, a meditation, a good, long and deep conversation with a good friend…

How great it would be to see the world from a higher place, at least once a day.

Where has all the Faith Gone?

elementals-myanmarwhere-has-all-the-faith-gone-myanmarbelieving-in-magic-myanmar7582df32-b71b-42b8-a035-d85207a4890dWhere is our religion?

Is it in the temples of Asia, or the mountain churches of Lebanon, the faraway tribes of Africa, or the monasteries of tibet? Is it in mosques? Is it with soothsayers? Is it with the self proclaimed healers and seers? Is it in the holy cities of our world? Is it in the secret science labs? Do our world leaders possess it?

Or is it inside each one of us waiting to be touched?

wonderings of a searching mind…
