Daily Coffee Talk~ 76/365

When you have a few words to say, and you let the words fade, you are happy to be blank, to be in the moment, where words are not necessary.

Such is being inside the domain of art.

Zeitfeld~ Duesseldorf

It’s time to write my blog before the time runs out.

At some point during human history someone felt the need to start recording time. It was no longer enough to just exist and react to the elements in nature, but some kind of adherence to the changes in the earth’s trajectory and rotation needed to be acknowledged and recorded on a daily basis .

And so here we are thousands of years later, with gps clocks and a total accuracy in the marking of time that has come so far from the first attempt of recording time at the sites of the earliest ancient cave paintings.

And what does it take to relax about the rest passage of time without the panic that drives most to ridiculous acts of misconception?

Daily Coffee Talk~ 59/365

It’s about 6 minutes before the day ends, I am with fever, but my mind woke me up to keep the rhythm of my blog.

I will keep it short again. I hope this is a short journey inside this virus, whatever it may be.

Stay healthy my friends

Wanderlust~

yanghsuo portrait 2.jpg
an image of me meeting a local woman and child,  taken by a good friend on an adventure in Yangshuo, China, a few years back.

How gratifying it is to explore the spinning sphere we call home. Each time I plan a new trip, I feel a bubbling of excitement at the unknown that would undoubtedly meet, the amazing people who cross my path and the images my camera would capture. It is as soul nourishing journey when I am far from my routine, away from the usual comforts of home and when I get the chance to push the limits of what I know. It makes me think of how knowledge was collected prior to the industrial revolution and the schooling systems that created machines for the industry; before that time knowledge was sought through experience, apprenticeship and exploration. What an incredibly esoteric experience.

Where is your next journey taking you?

New Beginnings~

It’s 2019, I used to imagine 2019 as a child with a cloud or mystery and wonderment, what could the future hold? How will we be? where will we be? what would we be doing?

I have always been fascinated with the unknown. It is about that excitement in the pit of my stomach every morning that is a fine line between inspiration and not knowing what the day will hold. Life changed me, it took me to different places in myself and in the world, I gained and I lost, I laughed and I cried, but this gift of loving the unknown never left me. I am thankful for that. It’s what drives me to create, to want to explore and to see rather than look, feel and not only be.

I wish you all an inner peace and the gift of inspiration, no matter where you are and what you are doing. Life is a mystery, waiting to be lived.

Before they wake up~ Düsseldorf

Before the city awakens, when the light slowly paints the dark blue horizon, that’s when magic happens. To think of how many mornings we end up not witnessing this wonder makes me wish to miss more sleep.

What is your favorite time to practice street photography?

Photos taken early this morning on the banks of the river Rhein in Duesseldorf.

Forget me not~

miscalculated twist of fate~ Yunnan

As I go through my archives, I relive moments from my past travels and like a magical time travel machine, I find myself there again in the moment, looking into the eyes of other humans, feeling what I felt then and simply connecting.

This is one of the many reasons I love photography, the real connections that are made, human to human, where all the differences melt away.

Misplaced~

the art of urban camouflage

In Hongkou, part of the old city of Shanghai, was a set of grey narrow alleys that were a maze of tiny streets containing 2 or 3 story homes stacked side by side in a most claustrophobic manner. Hundreds of tangled electric wires dangled between walls that were decorated with phone numbers advertising services for those who needed them. Water flowed down the streets and bikes and colorful laundry colored the otherwise shabby surroundings. In those sad alleys I met some very happy people. Their smiles instantly appeared when we met and stories were told that I only understood partly because of my poor grasp of Shanghainese but laughter was the largest part of the conversation. I just loved that place and I kept going back again and again to photograph until one day the residents announced that their neighborhood is condemned to demolition like so many other old Shanghai alleys. The last time I visited there were metal foundations of giant about to rise from the stories of these lovely people. I had to fight back tears seeing the ghosts of what used to be there and is no longer…

Protecting Innocence~

mindful of their innocence~ Kashgar.jpgThey arrive to this earth relying on our coded ability to host them as they take human form. They are born tiny and helpless and it is up to us to support, care for and nurture them till they can care for themselves. They carry in them the promise and possibility of a better tomorrow. They are our most valuable assets. Why can’t we all put their wellbeing before that of wealth, power and greed?

Closer to the sky~

somewhere near the sky~ Karakol

Somewhere life goes on, just simply, disconnected from our worldwide web. When you have the universal web of sky, sun, stars and earth, why would you downgrade to the contaminated world of Social media?

Day 52 of 365~
