Lady in the waterfall~ in almost every country I went to, in every religion you read about, in every mythology you investigate, water plays some kind of a major role. From holy water in the Christian church, to holy waters of the Ganges for Hindus , the washing with water before prayer for Muslims, the water element in most native tribal mythology and the list goes on. Our planet is covered with blue water, there is water in the sky and under ground, we are 70 % water and we cannot live without hydration. This lady believed that the waters of the fall are healing to her ailments, and she stood there for a very long time in total surrender to the strong water currents surrounding her. #facingtheworld #streetportrait

A sobering confrontation ~ I took this image when I walked into a slum in New Delhi against my guide’s recommendation. I needed to see what life was like for the less fortunate and to be confronted by the struggles that so many children face in our world. It was an honor to meet the humans that I have met there. It is very difficult to describe the living conditions for people in these places, and there are slums and ghettos all over our planet. The children that make it out of these conditions are tougher than steel. #facingtheworld #streetportrait

On another plane of existence ~ Sadhu or holy man in Varanasi, a religious city in India. These holy men, revered in Hinduism for their detachment from worldliness and for their adherence to a severe discipline of detachment and personal development have always been a fascination to me. The first time I was drawn to India, I traveled there alone at age 20 and practiced silence in an ashram for one month. It was a life changing experience that caused me to search deeper into the meaning of life. I only revisited India once in 2017 and my fascination was renewed. What causes a person to dedicate their life to a journey of self discovery? #facingtheworld #streetportrait

The girl who said nothing and told me everything ~ Lebanon, my home country has been slowly descending into a darkness, both symbolically and literally. People have been living with an average of 3 hours of electricity per day, watching their life savings disappear in their banks due to a huge corruption scheme that plunged the country in one of the worst economic disaster in the world. These are just a few things in a list too horrible to go through. And still the Lebanese spirit shines bright in the people who cling on to hope and those who fight to reclaim their nation. I left my country so long ago without ever losing the hope that it may recover, and that will take a miracle…#facingtheworld #streetportrait

Off the grid~ I have often met people along my travels that I connected to in a brief moment more and deeper thank I have with others who lived alongside of me and in my proximity. It’s in the eyes, a look that reminds me that we are all human, we all don’t know why we are here, where we are going and what we are really supposed to be doing during our time on earth. These thoughts are uncomfortable and inconvenient for most and can be even considered senseless, but for a few who have decided to live off the grid of ‘normal social life’ , there is not much left to lose. #facingtheworld #portraitphotography

Behind a curtain of disassociation~ A big challenge that faces refugees in our world is how quickly their stories and their struggles become forgotten. When an issue first appears in the news, we all react emotionally, and we are moved to rise up and assist. However the more that time passes, we begin to disassociate ourselves from the situation, a luxury that the affected refugees do not have.
