There is a joy that I find in keeping a large part of the image to the viewer’s imagination in photography. The story half told leaves room for dreams and subjective visions.

Very similar to writing. When you provide readers with details that encourage readers to imagine what they would feel, or what exactly the description looks like, but not so much that readers are bored because they are just listening to the description. As you say, the story half told.
