Photography Projects in Lockdown~ ‘Peace of Mind’
Part two of this collaboration from artists and photographers putting an image and words to a concept was about ‘peace of mind’. Here is the result:
Photography Projects in Lockdown~ Hope
Two months ago, lockdown began as a precaution for the Covid-19 pandemic in Germany. I had to find a creative way to change the way that my busy and very active photography meetup group of over 2000 members meets and keeps on finding inspiration.
So the photographing a concept came to life. The first idea was to invite everyone to try and photograph ‘hope’. The results (photographs and words to go with them were sent to me and we had a short zoom meeting afterwards to reflect on the process and share the work). I had no idea what would happen. To my surprise the process caught on immediately and attracted people from outside the group who saw the posting on facebook. The results were so inspiring to me and the process has kept us all busy week after week (we are up to project 5 by now). I will be sharing the presentations from each of these here starting with ‘hope’.
Blur wish project
As I began to get very inspired by artists and photographers who mastered the art of blur, I decided to give it a go and experiment with it in both dslr camera and iPhone. It took me on a journey today thinking about motion, time, vision, impressions and how they all come together in a magical dance to capture that special moment when time can be slowed down and dragged slowly to transport us through portals between the two worlds of now and then. Time is a very relative concept if we think about it and I often do. We feel it slowing down, speeding up, and standing still depending on our mental process. Last summer I had a near fatal car accident while driving the car very fast on a Germany autoban and the moments between the time the tire exploded and the car eventually coming to a stop after bumping along the side the highway felt like a slow eternity. The world just stopped and all became a clear blur if that makes any sense. There was more room for thinking slowly and calmly and the regular rules no longer applied.
So time, elastic, not fixed, blurry edges, enigmatic, just like life itself.
Day 19~ June 19th~ Xinjiang
A dew drop on a fresh flower petal at dawn radiates a beauty beyond anything we humans can create…
The concept of beauty is a funny one. What is considered beautiful in one culture can be completely unattractive in another. In China where we live, big noses are considered attractive, while tan skin is not, and ladies walk around with umbrellas during the sunny days to protect their fairness. In the west, we work very hard on shaping our eyebrows to achieve a minimal look, whereas in Asia, the unibrow is a sought after symbol of beauty.
I find beauty in the varying concept of beauty. I love traveling the world and learning its different ways. I love the fact that we humans are able to express ourselves in so many varied ways and to respond to land radiations and let them permeate our ways, from food, dress, thought, religion, fashion, even down to our perceptions of beauty.
