Day 20~ September 20th~ Tuscany

duomo di siena

Another one of the architectural marvels of Tuscany, the so called “zebra cathedral” with its black and white marble is just a stunning structure from both the inside and out. You could spend hours trying to decipher the codes of a place like this, the numerology and symbolism of it are begging investigation. The mystery in history…

Day 15~ August 15th~ Boracay

the white playground

Imagine if you will a place where children can grow fully supported to become who they were meant to be, a place where competition and the fear of failure do not hinder their growth, where only encouragement and guidance hold their hands. Can you picture a place designed only to further their growth, where helpers artfully help without counting the cost, and where the only unifying glue is human purpose and the wish for a better future…

Sounds too ideal? Maybe it can be, and maybe it was always meant to be.

Day Three Hundred One, November 19, 2011

the time of white magic

It is that time of year. If you believe in the power of color even a little bit, then you will feel the influence of white at beginning to show up. Something very special seems to happen on our planet at the time of the holidays, so it is no coincidence that several religions focus celebrations around the months of December and January: Ashura (Islamic), Christmas (Christian), Hannukkah (Jewish),  Las Posadas (Mexico), Kwanzaa (African-American), Virgin of Guadalupe (Mexico),  Bodhi Day – Buddha’s Enlightenment (Buddhist), Santa Lucia Day (Sweden)…

Lea and I feel compelled to unpack the holiday decorations and to start baking and getting cozy as one does on cold white days, because it is a time of contemplation and transition.

Of course, Lea’s main agenda is getting those chocolates out of the “AdventsKalendar” when the first of December is finally here 🙂

Day Two Hundred Thirty Five, September 14, 2011

the fellowship of the lens

When you do something so much, day after day, week after week, you put yourself on its frequency. It is like that with everything isn’t it? Food lovers are drawn to food, drinkers can spot a bar a mile away, smokers can find a cigarette in the most unlikely of places, flirts can sense an attractive person on the other side of the street, photographers can feel other photographers. When I meet another photographer, it is almost a sense of kinship, a similarity of things shared, experienced, sought after. A relationship with light, with color, with motion. Today on an afternoon walk down the Huang Pu river in Shanghai I met this white gloved photographer and we just smiled at each other for a few moments, took shots of each other and just giggled like children before I walked away…

Day Two Hundred Thirty, September 9, 2011

The bride

Every little girl’s dream, the moment she becomes princess and joins her prince, the most romantic moment to look forward to, the happy ending to most fairy tales…

It is just moving to see this tradition still alive in our world of today, to witness a moving ceremony of pledged loyalty, mutual respect and of a declared wish to live together in partnership like the trees in the forest in common purpose.

Day One Hundred Fifty Four, June 25, 2011

The little dancer

It was the opening act of the summer festival at the German School in Shanghai, the audience filled the seats, my heart was pounding nervously about her dance being the first in the show…I imagined a nervous, shy, hesitant little girl.

And out she came, confident, proud, dancing with all her soul to the rhythm, enjoying every second she had on stage…

They never cease to surprise us our little humans!

The ramblings of a very proud mother…
