Daily Coffee Talk~56/365

Hi from a cold German Evening,

The world feels more and more alien to me with every passing day. 2022 is proving to be an even more intense transition into a changing future than the years that preceded it.

What kind of world are we leaving our children? They are a generation that was born and grew up in an accelerating age of technological advancement and an ever narrowing focus toward screens and social media with less and less connection to nature and its wonders.

How will they reconnect to what matters the most? How can we guide them towards a more harmonious, connected and natural state of affairs?

Maybe winter weather , shorter days and exploding covid numbers are promoting these thoughts and contemplations, but they are real and dominate my thoughts.

Good night from here and I hope you wake up to a bright new day full of promise and change to the better.

Morning Coffee Talk~ 36/365

Good Morning,

One of the positive things about travel for me is the interruption of routines. One of the daily things I did every day when at home was watch the news. I have not done so in over 10 days now and I have noticed an interesting consequence: mental space.

There is more space in my mind to learn new things and take on new impressions. And strangely enough, the world still goes on whether I know about it or not.

So here is another resolution: less news and media and more books, museums and walks in the park.

Day Two Hundred Ninety Nine, November 17, 2011

the pastel generation

The new generation, what words can we list to associate with their day to day domain at this time in history? I did this exercise with myself naming some words that come to mind from the top of my head: social media, games, electronics, texting, computers, television, movies, ipads, ipods, iphones, virtual sports with Wii…

These things they take with them everywhere, they communicate through them, they find their identities with the help of these gadgets and they have become an integral part of the life of a modern young person. And then I thought further and realized that they are all boxes of some sort, small screens that draw the eyes and concentration of a person in and holds them there. So they are boxed in almost oblivious to the world around them and I remember very clearly that for us it was never really like that. Where are we heading? How virtual is our world going to get? Are we going to box ourselves in deeper and deeper? Then the word zombie came to mind (which might have to do with my Lea showing up today with a collection of zombie cards out of the blue!)
