During this weekend in Germany and other north European countries, bonfires are lit in celebration of the easter weekend. I have been asking locals about the origins of this tradition as well as Mr Google and it seems to be a pre-Christian ritual that welcomes the spring by burning away the lurking darker spirits of winter. It is amazing how much of what we believe in and do has lost it’s original significance and is relegated to a “feel good” thing to do. Imagine how life would be if all our beliefs and traditions were alive!

Balance: how important it is in our lives. It is such a delicate dance, trying to find the middle place where life is harmonious. It is so difficult to live a balanced life with the pulls, tugs and demands of our daily goings on. And still it is so important to find it, to stand still for a moment and find that place again, where life is not too daunting, where stresses are kept at bay, and where values and standards are the main importance. And when balance is achieved, it is such a graceful sight!

the grace of balance
It was a sunny, warm and shiny day today. Lea put on her fresh colorful Spring clothes and within seconds from the start of the egg hunt, she was covered with leaves, blossoms, soil and grass stains! She was diving, crawling, climbing, shaking trees and running wild till she and her friends collected a huge pile of eggs and candies (especially brought from Germany from the lovely Anja). Needless to say, everyone is on a chocolate high today!
accumulated and about to be consumed 🙂
It's the season of color
It is the season of color and smiles. Who doesn’t smile to a pretty flower, to the warm rays of the April sun, to the first crisp fresh breeze that flirts with the curtains of an open window?
And then come the colored eggs! In our little family we get very excited about coloring them, hiding them and finding them again!
Thank you Spring! Thank you chickens! Thank you weather Gods!
Happy Spring everyone 🙂
Spring in Shanghai markets
Every Spring around this time, we have a wonderful time shopping in the busy Shanghai markets for Easter decorations and materials for making crafts. It has become a tradition over the last 5 years we spent in Shanghai, and we start getting into the spirit of fun bright colors weeks in advance. This year we have in the plans: an Easter tree, a wacky egg hunt in the gardens, egg coloring sessions, making little chickens,…you get the idea 🙂
But the markets here are such a treasure chest of color and ideas, like my favorite one near Yuyuan with endless tight corridors of booths filled with every craft lover’s dream materials. I usually take a friend with me like Sabrina to hold me back!
