Morning Coffee Talk~ 13/365

‘The morning process’, how the day starts, what sets the tone for the rest of the day, how do we arm ourselves to handle what is planning to meet us on that day? For me, this time just upon waking is the most important of all.

Do you ever feel that you travelled to unknown places in the night and that you have to meet yourself again in the morning? I scan through my faculties in the early morning to do a check-in and see what is there that wasn’t the day before and what is no longer there that was, what feelings need to be dealt with and relegated and what strengths do I need to call onto myself that day to have balance and well being.

That extra hour is priceless for me and so necessary for checks and balances. We are constantly changing every moment on a cellular level and so is everything around us. It’s mind boggling. So the morning becomes a ceremony to look forward to, and over time I have grown to feel a sense of awe and inspiration upon waking, wondering what the day will bring from challenges to giftings.

The images above were taken in Shanghai on the Bund. It was always inspiring to see the locals at sunrise practicing Tai Chi, meditations, kite flying, fan and sword dances and to witness the atmosphere of calm and concentration before the day sped into chaos as it does in a metropolis of 30 million.

Wishing you a balanced day and a great start into this week.

Casting the net~ Malaysia

Good morning,

Some days like today, when the mind feels very busy like it is working overtime, thoughts flying here and there without any apparent rhyme or reason, I stop.

Stopping is not as simple as it sounds. I remember as a 21 year old, taking a trip alone to India with a the sole purpose of finding focus. Once there, I decided to take up a vow of silence for one month. I did that in the confines of an ashram in South India, and during that time, I discovered among so many things how busy the mind and the brain can be in a single moment. They are so much more complex than I ever imagined… So many lines of thought can act themselves out at the same moment and on so many levels of perception, some emotionally connected, some random, some related to past events, some future projecting, and others to do with immediate needs of the moment…

I learned to quiet my thoughts down to try and focus on one or two threads at a time. And that experience was a pivotal moment in my life that I can link back to when needed as life gets hectic and chaotic.

So today felt like that and I needed to cast my net on one single thought, and that was ‘thought’ itself.

Thankful for having the gift of choice to be able to focus on one line of thought… how amazing is that? Feeling grateful for being human today.

Wishing you all a peaceful and inspired rest of the week.

Morning Coffee Talk~ 8/365

Good morning,

This morning I smell winter in the air, and it smells calm, quiet, contained and protective. Can you smell the weather?

I thought for today to use some motion in the imagery that I chose. It’s a funny thing when you add some skills to your toolbox, you begin to see through them. I used to always dream of translating what I see into reality and with motion this becomes slowly a reality.

It is amazing how the world around us influences our mood, our state of being and how we then handle and merge with the day as we step into it. Today feels careful, but armed with well being of a quiet kind. With the imagery and snow videos I captured from last year I try to translate the feelings into imagery.

Thank you for joining me on this journey of discovery…

Time to be Still~

In a time when all the planet is in upheaval, when all that we know is changing, when tensions are running high and panic and fear are the order of the day, being still might be what saves us. Let’s all take a moment, to pause in time and reflect on our lives here on this planet and all the good that remains in us and around us waiting to be noticed. Let’s be still because all is well, at least on the levels that matter most.

From a recent journey to the old villages around Huangshan (yellow mountains) of China’s Anhui province, I was utterly inspired with the landscape, the feeling of calm that blankets the area and the mystical sense of being so far away from it all.

It made me think a lot about the nature of water, and reflections that are abundant in this place; the magic of seeing the world repeated, maybe for us to think twice.

A place I will happily return to.

rainy contemplations~ China

The rain, it has the power to enforce a stillness, a sense of calm, a blanketed silence, and inside of that we can somehow think more peacefully…

I love capturing memories of raindrops, umbrellas and the brave ones who walk and think in the rain.

Day Eighty Seven, April 19, 2011

a much needed 'together' goofy time

At times in my parenting of Lea I feel like an internal reflection day is needed, a ‘her and me’ time that can bring harmony, rhythm and a much needed routine into lives together. Today felt like the right day to rewrite our daily plans, look back at our week, plan ahead and see what we have missed. Children can run so wild and chaotic but as soon as you invite them to a process like this, they love to play a part. It was like a magical calm descended on us this afternoon. We took all the time we needed without any pressure to gather ourselves, to stop and then hit the reset button of our daily routine. Of course we left some time for the goofy and the silly 🙂
