Day Three Hundred Sixty Two, January 19, 2012

broken

I have been thinking a lot lately about children and the process of growing up. My daughter is 7 and she is a dreamer, a total believer in the magic of life, in fairies, in angels, in the unusual and special things about life. As she gets schooled and gradually grows older, some of her beliefs will get beaten to the ground and deemed silly, childish and unreal. I dread that day that is sure to come to at least some parts of her magical life and I pray that she may gather some of this sparkle to keep for herself in a special place somewhere, because how dull is a life without magic?

Day Two Hundred Thirty Three, September 12, 2011

what color is your smoke screen?

Smoke screens, we all have them, don’t we?  We present a face to the world, an identity, an image, a made up representation of who we want others to think we are. It is often rougher than we are, sharper, tougher, with an edge and with a certain amount of vagueness. We protect our inner self, our true self and we only show it in our most vulnerable of moments. It is quite a pity to have to go through life in this way, in a constant state of self defense. And when we can find someone that allows us to be who we really are, we hold on to them for dear life. Yes, with true friends, smoke screens are not required.

Looking for the essence

It has been said that the truth of something, anything lies in its essence.

Often this fragile truth is hidden by layers and layers of personality and until those are stripped away, the inner finer core cannot be seen and experienced.

It is the same with everything isn’t it?

The fine being protected by layers of coarse, the soft covered with a layer of hard…

And anything worthwhile must be struggled for.
