Day Three Hundred Sixty Four, January 21, 2012

friends forever

There are friendships that defy all odds because they were simply meant to be. Lea’s friendship with Laura is such a strong bond. Laura was born in Bangkok, and moved to China when she was less than 2. This is when her friendship with Lea started. They were inseparable even at that age and for the 3 years that followed. Then came the sad day that Laura had to move to Singapore and I imagined that things will settle with time and distance into a distant childhood memory. But no, they managed to stay in touch and strive to meet, connect and continue a powerful relationship as if they still lived across each other as they always did. Today, Laura who now lives in Hong Kong came to visit and Lea was in heaven as they are to spend a week together rebuilding and reinforcing their 6 year old friendship.

Day Three Hundred Forty Three, December 31, 2011

waiting for the fireworks to start

Midnight of December 31st, the time that all around the world wait for, expecting something important to take place, a ball to fall on times square in New York, a kiss to take place with someone special, fireworks to burn into the night sky and greetings to be exchange all around after the pop of a champagne bottle.

As far as I could remember, I wondered about the big fascination with this exact deciding minute that changed a solar calendar by one digit and I always made it a point to not go with the masses for the sake of originality and being a decider of my own fate. This year a took a few minutes to myself away from it all to think about the new year and what might be its significance, a moment alone, because how can you think when all around you is chaos? Yes, it was a very reflective moment, a great moment…

Wishing all my friends a wonderful year ahead where value is given to what is really important.

Day Two Hundred Ten, August 20, 2011

airport day!

Doing a 365 photography project, you are bound to have a day spent in airports. These days we find ourselves in transit so often and our children become expert travelers at such a young age.

I still remember my first flight as a child (from Lebanon to Cyprus) and how totally exciting it was for me to get on that flying machine that was almost too magical to comprehend. I still remember so many little details and the flights after that were counted on a diary page proudly as a great achievement in the world of adventures and quests.

Not for my daughter, she flies too much to keep count of her journeys, too often for it to be super special, and too easily available for it to be an achievement. Another strange onset of the modern world we are creating!
