Walking Between Light and Shadow~

Tonight’s image is one I took a few years ago in Prague, Czech Republic. It emerged again today and brought with it a wave of thoughts I feel compelled to share.

We live in a world of duality—of light and dark. One cannot exist without the other. Without darkness, light would have no meaning, no form. And without light, darkness would be all-consuming. It is the contrast that defines them, that gives each one power.

This photograph, blurred and uncertain, reminds me how easily the boundaries blur—how life often happens in that in-between space. Where light tries to shine through and darkness whispers around the edges. The greatest challenge we face today is not the existence of darkness, but the ability to truly see through it—to recognize it, to resist its pull, and to stand in the clarity of light.

The dark is no longer hiding. It’s louder, bolder, more shameless than ever. And yet, the light still lives—quietly perhaps, but persistently—in truth, in kindness, in moments of human clarity. Every one of us, if we listen closely, knows where the truth resides. Deep inside, we know what is right and what is not.

So how do we live in such times? How do we stand with our feet in the mud of this world, while keeping our heads lifted to the sun, to the fresh air, to the light?

We are living, unmistakably, in both the worst of times and the best of times, as it was once famously written. And history, once again, circles back on itself. The question is—what will we choose to see, and where will we choose to stand?

  1. The West had paid a very high price in WWII to be able to enjoy peace for… 80 years… Now we all have to stand up for the light to stay… Eventually the Light always wins. But, boy, it can be so slow… 😉

  2. Apologies for the earthy note but your lovely reflection reminds me of the story of the French rooster: ‘Le coq Gaullois’, standing with its feet in the muck (merde), proudly it crows. May we be so inspired!
