It’s a Mad Mad World~

Do you ever wake up, look around you, watch the news, survey the world and realise we are living what can be likened to an apocalyptic ‘Mad Max’ situation?

We seem to see this, live through it and carry on as if nothing strange is really happening. This baffles me about the nature of humanity.

We have had a pandemic, war, aggression, hunger, rising crime rates, shootings, destruction, rapid climate change, insane leadership, economic collapse in so many places, military take-overs, assassinations, to count only some of what one hears about every day, and still, we carry on as if all is normal.

We seem to let ourselves be hypnotised by the media, by influencers, by the next trend, by television, news of celebrities, the next meal, alcohol, drugs, sex and on and on…

Where is humanity heading towards? This maybe dark for some, but that is the issue. We turn away and abdicate the responsibility of shining a light on the darkness and we simply relegate it to a trend in history.

Isn’t this a signal to a big change that is desperately needed? Who are the thinkers and planners of the better future we are all striving towards? Who can think beyond their own mortality and plan for the good of future generations?

When will we finally wake up?

  1. My thought entirely Mimo. When shall we wake up? Apparently after the disaster.
I’ve been in Paris for a few weeks (and London and Brussels). Everywhere the same crowds of tourists, women dressed to the nines, men dressed like little boys in shorts and t-shirts. Not a care in the world…
    Je suis consterné.
And the thinkers and planners and actors? They are somewhere, backstage, and will emerge once we are in deep sh…
Where was Napoleon, his generals, Wellington et al in 1788?
I just wish those who will reinvent the world would hurry up a bit…
    Please?
(Hope all is well with you?)

    1. Indeed, when will we wake up?

      1. Hopefully when it’s not too late?

  2. Certainly true that the apparent devolution, as seen through media, looks like doom is upon us. I’ve read enough, though, to know the opposite is true.
Globally the species is far better off than any time in history. It sure doesn’t feel that way, I know. But search for things like infant death rate, hunger, poverty, education, disease, (not including the current calamity), most are headed in the right direction.

    1. Indeed and your comment is a great reminder to see the glass half full 😊🙏🏻

      1. Half full of good beer I hope. (Grin)

        1. Haha sure

  3. Maybe we are waking up, as participants in the birth process of ONE humanity?? This is not an easy birth nor is it painless, but I believe each one of us can contribute , in many different ways. The words of Clarissa Pinkola Estés always inspire me: ‘We were made for this time … Struggling souls catch light from other souls who are fully lit and willing to show it. If you would help to calm the tumult, this is one of the strongest things you can do.’

    1. Amazing words, yes every small act can make a difference. Thank you

  4. It is crazy. I don’t watch the news, that helps me, although I do read books like “The Sixth Extinction”, etc. But then I’m one of the people you’re describing. I don’t know what the answer is. Perhaps each of us can help in our own small ways…like recycling, less or no meat consumption, combining errands, shorter showers, etc. etc.

    1. I always hope that simply being aware and doing the little things can help. Thanks for your comment 🙏🏻😊
