There’s a moment just before we get swallowed—by doubt, by hesitation, by the relentless voice that tells us we can’t. This photo from the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia brought that to mind instantly. The architectural form feels like a great jaw, poised mid-bite, while the lone figure walks on—still moving, still ahead. It reminded me that in life, staying just a few steps ahead of the things that try to stop us is often enough.

I’ve learned over time that when creative doubt creeps in, the only way I’ve ever found to deal with it is to act. Not to solve it or to silence it with certainty, but to keep going. To do. To create. When I stall, that’s when the fear closes in. And that’s when the ‘jaw’ catches up. I’ve come to see motion not as a luxury, but as a necessity—especially when the path is unclear.

It’s tempting to wait for clarity, for the fear to pass, for inspiration to return. But I’ve found that it never does unless I’m already on my way. The choice is never between fear or no fear—it’s whether or not we move in spite of it. That’s the space where creativity continues. That’s the step that keeps us out of the shadow and in the light.

Each time we keep walking, we choose not to be stopped—not by our doubts, not by the world’s judgments, and not by the structures that seem too large to overcome. We walk on, because the doing is what saves us.

“ the best way to deal with fear is to see it, acknowledge it and keep on walking“

  1. Creative doubt? Nonsense. You’re actually on a creative streak. As Johnny Walker said: “Keep walking”. (One of the best slogans ever written)
