Beneath the intricate lattice of shadows in this photograph lies for me a poignant metaphor for the human experience. The web-like structure, with its fractured patterns, reflects the endless maze of worries and problems we weave around ourselves. These concerns, which we so often mistake for the reality of life, are nothing but illusions—impermanent and ever-changing. Like shadows cast by the shifting sun, they lack true substance, yet we allow them to obscure the vibrant truths that exist beyond. We get lost within their confines, forgetting that what truly matters lies not in these temporary entanglements but in the eternal pulse of life flowing through and around us.
If we pause and step back from the webs of daily chaos, we can attune ourselves to the profound truth that connects all life. The energy that powers the sun and stars and moves the tides also courses within us, a reminder of the oneness we share with the universe. By embracing this eternal force, we can transcend the trivialities of our worries and reconnect with the infinite. The shadows are not the cage—they are the canvas for light to shine through. To live fully is to shift our focus from the ephemeral to the eternal, to let go of fear and instead resonate with the truth that we are part of something far greater than our fleeting concerns.
This post was inspired by the artwork from the Public Art Abu Dhabi Biennial: "Kader Attia's Urban River (2024) features three stainless steel frames assembled in an arch-like structure, containing reproduced cracks found in the asphalt or cement streets of modern cities, inflicted by nature."
