The golden embrace of the sun is a profound gift that transcends time, connecting ancient civilizations to modern-day life. In my photographs, the sunlight interacts with architectural grandeur and human emotion, echoing the reverence humans have always held for its presence. Ancient cultures, from the Egyptians venerating Ra to the Aztecs worshiping Huitzilopochtli, regarded the sun as a life-giving deity. Its golden rays not only dictated agricultural cycles but symbolized vitality, hope, and divine favor. Today, beyond its spiritual significance, science reaffirms its importance for well-being. It boosts our moods, regulates our sleep through melatonin, and fortifies our bodies with vitamin D. Whenever I am prompted to imagine my happy place in meditation, it’s always sunny and warm. I wonder if everyone’s happy place is a sunny one…
Standing beneath these sunlit arches and basking in its warmth, I feel grateful to escape the grey skies of Germany this January. Here, in this sun-blessed land, winter unfolds with an almost sacred radiance. Each shadow cast by the sun seems to whisper stories of joy and resilience, reminding me of humanity’s eternal bond with this celestial force. The light pours through latticed designs and stretches over stone. It reminds me how lucky I am to witness a winter where the sun not only survives but thrives. It envelops me in warmth and creative inspiration.
