going inwards to find it~ Jade Buddha Temple~ Shanghai

We might declare our allegiance to a religion or to a non-religion, but either way, there will be moments in our lives when we just feel the need to close our eyes, turn inwards and try desperately to connect to something bigger, greater and more knowing than we are. No matter how amazing and above it all we feel and think we are, the fragility of our very mortality will at some point in our lives humble us to the greatness of what caused us to be in the first place, regardless of what we may call it.

    Superb composition. Very striking.

  2. Sometimes one is ‘thrown off’ by the blend of contemporary and ancient. But in this case the
clothing fits with the action and the scene. The image has a great texture and effect.

  3. Hi Mimo, the interesting thing about your picture (apart from its simple beauty, composition and movement!) is the location. Shangai. After Maoism, the cultural revolution and all attempts by the Party to erase religion, it survived. the woman in the picture is, what? barely thirty? her parents were kids in the times of Mao and Zhou Enlai. how did this tradition get passed on?
    Thank you for your work!

  6. “the fragility of our very mortality will at some point in our lives humble us to the greatness of what caused us to be in the first place, regardless of what we may call it.” This is a great reflection for elder people who lost many capacities… What about youth? Do they pray this way? What people in good health and good hopes pray for?
Is praying a situational happening? Isn’t it ironic that Praying sound as being a prey? What a prey wants above all? Be the vulture for a change? Be in control of some aspect in our life that drag us down in despair?…

  7. Awesome!!

  8. Summoning spirits. Gorgeous.

  9. I agree with Bente, and well put words as well!
