Day Three Hundred Twenty Seven, December 15, 2011

sun nostalgia

Funny thing with us humans and our values. We seem to value what we no longer have a hundred times more than we did when we possessed it. As long as we take something for granted, then we allow familiarity to set in and we lose the value. It is the same with everything, from the warm sun of a summer day to the so called ‘loved ones’ in our lives. With the cycling seasons, we are never with one of them too long to lose our appreciation of the variety. So maybe familiarity is when we allow our relationships to become seasonless that we forget to stop, reassess, renew and instill new value into them year after year.

Just a thought while I miss the warmth of summer.

  1. Thanks for putting a very welcome splash of colour into my day. 😀

    1. I like the new avatar image and the pink. Happy New Year to you!

  2. The peripheral colors in your photograph are as important as those of the flower.

As for what you wrote, have you ever noticed that English has contradictory sayings about the subject? One is “Out of sight, out of mind,” and the other is “Absence makes the heart grow fonder.”

And as for your missing the warmth of summer, we can drop one letter from the second proverb to get “Absence makes the heat grow fonder.”

    1. Thank you. That’s food for thought! I love meaningful comments 🙂

    2. “Out of sight, out of mind” seems to apply to one’s children, frequently.

Contradiction “best to be seen but not heard” which applies to children almost exclusively.

“Absence makes the heart grow fonder” seems to apply to, well, to one’s children, often.

      1. Probably because I don’t have children, only the second of your sayings strikes me as mostly child-related. I contextualize the third by imagining separated lovers pining away for each other.

  3. Love that picture, the colours are to die for.

    1. Thanks for your comment 🙂

  4. love words and picture…which is very painterly..

    1. Thank you Hellen!

    1. not at all, just a flu and some nostalgia 🙂

  6. Great thoughts well presented. We can all do well to take note.

  7. You are so on point! The closer we get to a life experience, the less you appreciate it. Kinda ironic given the fact that the closer you get the farther you truly are from it. I guess the secret is to keep a healthy balance in life life. I miss the sunny weather too but it’ll be worth it come spring time. Thanks for sharing!

    1. and thanks for reading and commenting!
