Day Three Hundred Two, November 20, 2011

patched up

One of the greatest kindnesses that went into our creation as humans is the ability to forget pain. Without that, no woman would ever have another baby after her first, we would never dare fall in love again and we would never run after our first fall. Yes, we are able to forget pain and it gets archived into our memories as as small pang and nothing more. But the scars, they remain. Don’t you have scars that always draw a story out of you? Aren’t some of these wounds coated with nostalgia and some bitter-sweetness? Don’t we look at them with an almost sense of endearment?

but when I look into the pictures, I almost cried.

    1. Thanks for your comment and for taking the time to read 🙂

  2. Thank you Mimo.. This was just a point and shoot photo.. I am awaiting the new camera and then I need to start learning the photography craft again..

  3. This photo evokes a certain kind of nostalgia 🙂

    I like it a lot.

  4. It is true you write beautifully and so succinctly, it is a very rare thing .. to also capture the magical image that sparks such words.. c

    1. Thank you Cecilia, when I started this project I was totally focused on the photography but now I find that the writing is a natural part of it (just enough words to make the point). Thank you for taking the time to comment. I know how busy you are with your amazing blog!

  5. I am a fan of both your photography and your writing mimo . The bicycle reminded me of a photo I took in Iceland recently.. take a look ( I wanted to just isolate the bike photo but couldn’t quite manage it !)

    1. Thank you Helen, that really means a lot to me. Going to view your image now.

    2. Oh, it is a wonderful find! Did you try to open the lens wide for a short dof? That usually works really well in isolating a subject like this in the street and shooting it from a slightly different angle.
But a wonderful colorful image 🙂

  6. Definitely! Scars do heal and make those stronger and all the more wise. And there are also those that cannot allow those wounds to fully heal… those who cannot get over their pain and pasts. Great post and I love the photo! Really gets me thinking… I love your writing. 🙂

    1. Thank you Polly! It is so true about some people holding on and not letting go. We are all so different aren’t we? Thank you for your comment and I do enjoy reading your lovely blog!

  7. Scars lead to stories that manifest in verse, sometimes.

    Agree with you, totally!

    1. Yes, we seem to find ways to express them, each to his or her own art…
